Follow-up to For Federal or Not for Federal Use

I am following-up on my blog about the For Federal Use driver’s license where, at least, in West Virginia, you have a choice to opt in or out of a For Federal Use driver’s license. If you choose the For Federal Use license then you have to provide additional information that you are who you say you are.  I had to produce my marriage license/certificate because my name had been changed.

During our Firm’s trip to Las Vegas, my husband and I received a red stamp and/or a red “E” on our boarding passes and was told that we did not have to go through the body scanners or take our shoes off.  At the Pittsburgh airport, I thought it was a random-type thing.  But after receiving a rather large “E” on our boarding passes at the Las Vegas airport and was once again told that we did not have to remove our shoes, etc., I am speculating that it had to do with our For Federal Use driver’s license.  The one with the Gold Star.

I did not have to go through the body scanners, just the metal detectors, and I did not have to remove my shoes at either airport.  Tom, however, who has had a knee replacement, did go through the body scanners, but did not have to remove his shoes at either airport.

I am not sure that our having a For Federal Use driver’s license was at all the reason for this, but I was able to sail through while Tom had to stand in a rather longer (scanner) line than I did, if, in fact, there was a line at all.
