National Tortilla Chip Day

National Tortilla Chip Day

National Tortilla Chip Day

February 24 is National Tortilla Chip Day! They’re a great snack and can be enjoyed plain, with salsa, queso or guacamole. Tortilla chips make a great addition to any occasion.

The invention of the tortilla was an act of not wasting rejected tortillas from a workplace by Rebecca Webb Carranza in the late 1940s. She and her husband ran a Los Angeles tortilla factory and deli. Carranza took the unusable tortillas, cut them into triangles and fried them. She sold them for 10 cents a bag and the rest is history!

Today, America is one of the main markets for tortilla chips. If you’re like me, you look forward to getting a basket of them with a side of salsa when dining at your favorite restaurant! Some ways to celebrate this day include:

  • Eating tortilla chips
  • Making nachos – add all your favorite toppings
  • Make your own homemade tortilla chips and salsa

Enjoy your tortilla chips today and every day!
