National Peanut Butter Lovers Month
Did you know the month of November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month? Me either! As much as I love peanut butter, I cannot believe I didn’t know loving peanut butter was something that’s actually celebrated!
National Peanut Butter Lovers Month originated in 1995. There seems to be no information on the origin or creator of the national recognized month. Yet here are some fun facts about peanut butter in general.
The oldest manufacturer and seller of peanut butter has been selling peanut butter since 1908. About 89 percent of households consume peanut butter in the United States. It takes about 540 peanuts to produce one 12-ounce jar of peanut butter. You can harvest enough peanuts on a one-acre plot of land to make approximately 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches. Of course, I am sure we have all at least heard of and possibility watched the TV show “Mister Ed.” Did you know they used peanut butter to get Mr. Ed to “talk?”
There are different ways National Peanut Butter Lovers Month is celebrated. Some choose to cook one dish a week during the month that has peanut butter in the recipe. A lot of Thai foods, soups, etc., have peanut butter in them. I’ve tried a cheeseburger that had peanut butter sauce on it at a local restaurant. I tried it because it was something different and I was surprised at how good it actually was. Another way to celebrate National Peanut Butter Lovers Month is to make it a social event and have a peanut butter dish cook off.
One of my favorite things to make with peanut butter is my mom’s famous peanut butter fudge. The time of year is upon us when she would start making batches upon batches to give out to family and friends for the holidays. While I do not go to the extent she did, I do make a batch or two at Christmas time to share among my family and friends. Traditions have always been a big thing in my family and when my daughter is out on her own, I will be sure to pass down Meme’s peanut butter fudge recipe to her like my momma did for me.
