Another Milestone Birthday
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be saying Iām 60 years old. My life is more than half over and Iām looking forward to retirement (in a few years). Iām thinking I just may become a gypsy. Iāve already ordered bells from Amazon Prime Days to put on a wagon if I decide thatās the way I want to travel. I told my boss/friend Jamie Bordas this and he chuckled and looked at me funny. I think I might just scare him a little sometimes because heās never sure if Iām joking or serious. (Iām just keeping Jamie on his toes.)
Iāll always maintain my friendships, whatever path I take. My dear friend Linda Bordas is always there for me when I am dealing with challenging situations. Her advice is always the right advice and her research skills are totally amazing. There is nothing she canāt find to help and sheās always helping others. Our friendship has grown over the years, and she knows Iāll always be there for her even if I do take to the road in a wagon and/or retire. Turning 60 without her would be miserable. She always makes me feel good about myself even at 60.
So how did I bring in No. 60? Well, we took two weeks for vacation and went with friends to Margaritaville in Florida for a week, then did a week in Florida ourselves. What a way to bring in sixty!
While we were in Margaritaville we took a day and went to Disney. I was really never at Disney before except during a hurricane and most of the park was flooded which my young boys (at the time) were not happy campers about. So, it was really my first time there.
Iām telling you I had a blast, and it was all because of my husband and friends. One friend in the group is a fantastic planner and had everything arranged. Another couple knew all the ins and outs of the park because they have a daughter who works at one of the parks.
Trust me, itās extremely hot at Disney in July, but it was so worth it. We went on The Toy Story ride, Space Mountain, Tron, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, and my absolute favorite was The Haunted Mansion ride. (it was referred to as āJeanneās ride.ā) I love a good haunt with ghosts!
We saw The Hall of Presidents and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor and we got to meet Mickey Mouse! Iām a dog lover, so I had a T-shirt that had Mickey and his dog Pluto and said āLife is Better with a Dog.ā Mickey loved it and made sure to show me the picture of he and Pluto hanging on his wall. It was a super fantastic day, and I hope to get back to Disney and see one of the other parks before I get too old to enjoy them.
The second week was also amazing. On the day of my 60th birthday we met with my sister, my nephew, his wife and my two great nephews for lunch. It was a fantastic day as we sat by the bay in Tampa and had lunch. The cake they brought is one of my favorites: white cake, raspberry filling, and butter cream icing. Impressive! We talked, laughed, took pictures and had just a heck of a good day. They made my 60th birthday one Iāll remember for the rest of my life. Thank you to my husband, family, and friends for helping me ring in an unforgettable 60th birthday.
It made me reflect. Thinking back on all the unforgettable things Iāve done in my life amazes me. God is giving me a super fantastic life with a super fantastic husband, children, family, good friends, dogs, and a job I totally love at Bordas & Bordas. I donāt want to disappoint God by not doing enough for others, and especially animals who have no voices.
Remember Iām 60 and my filter has a hole in it, so anything that pops into my head these days is starting to come out of my mouth. Which leads me to my soapbox for animals.
First, donāt shop adopt. Spay and neuter your pets. Dog fighting is not a sport — itās abuse and should be reported to your local authorities. Dogs are a commitment for the rest of their lives (up to 15 to 20 years) and dumping or leaving them behind should never be an option. Thatās why we have shelters/organizations to take them if you canāt take care of your pets the right way.
if youāre looking for a cat or dog, go check out the shelters in your area. Your new best friend is waiting for you and their love is unconditional. Anyone who has ever had an animal will tell you itās one of the best days in your life when you get them, and the worst day is when you say good-bye as they cross over The Rainbow Bridge. Every day in between is filled with wet noses, window art, kisses, lots of love ā and memories made with your best four-legged family member. Remember God spelled backwards spells Dog.
Life is short, life is precious. So go to new places and do new things whenever you can. Donāt be afraid to eat the cake — enjoy your life while you still can before you become older with health issues.
I remember Jim Bordas and I having a conversation on how we should live our lives and we both agreed that God came first, family came second, and work came third. Jim always lived his life the way God wants all of us to live. I hope and pray Iām doing the same. Remember to always be humble and kind, forgive yourself, forgive others for their wrong doings, keep your circle small, but most important let yourself love!
So, hereās to 60 with the best years still in front of me!
