Bordas & Bordas kicked off the holiday season with three Christmas parades over the weekend. The Main Street Bank Fantasy in Lights Parade in Wheeling, the 50th annual Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade in Moundsville and the Belmont Savings Bank Christmas Parade in St. Clairsville. The parades will wrap up on Saturday with the WPXI Holiday Parade in Pittsburgh.
While there is nothing better than all of our local parades, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this Thursday is a fan favorite. How did the Thanksgiving Day parade get started? In all began in 1924. Macy’s wanted to celebrate the opening of the largest store in the world the day before the holiday shopping season commenced. They hosted a parade in New York on the morning of Thanksgiving with hopes of getting their store in the minds of Christmas shoppers. On 9 a.m. on November 27, 1924 the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was born and has been a tradition ever since.
