Youth Services System’s Winter Freeze Shelter

Youth Services System’s Winter Freeze Shelter

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a blessed holiday season, full of warmth, generosity and appreciation for the many wonderful blessings most of us get to enjoy. For those of you looking for opportunities to continue the giving spirit this winter, Youth Services System's Winter Freeze Shelter may be just what you’re looking for.

For the past several years, I have been involved with Youth Services System (YSS), a truly wonderful organization dedicated to improving the physical and emotional well-being of children and, increasingly adults who lack many of the basic needs that most of us are fortunate to have met. For over 40 years, YSS has been selflessly dedicated to doing all it can to improve the lives of the less fortunate here in our community. Time and time again, whenever a new challenge has arisen, YSS has mobilized its staff and volunteers to come up with creative ways to help.   And this winter, YSS could use your help with its Winter Freeze Shelter.

The Winter Freeze Shelter is a community project that serves homeless adults. The Winter Freeze Shelter uses volunteers to assist shelter supervisors overnight and could use your help with staffing this winter. Volunteers to the Winter Freeze Shelter arrive at the YSS Central Office at 87 15th Street, Wheeling, by 9 p.m. They help serve guests their evening meal and then help with clean-up. Importantly, volunteers offer conversation and dignity to the Winter Freeze Shelter guests. They provide comfort and security overnight by watching over them as they rest. By 8 a.m., the guests and the volunteers leave for the day.

The Winter Freeze Shelter offers a truly gratifying way to give support to our community. The Winter Freeze Shelter is open every night from now until March 15.  For more information, or to schedule a volunteer shift, please contact Holly Fox, Youth Services Systems, Inc., at 304-218-2847 or by email at hfox@ysswv.com.
