A PLUG FOR THE OHIO VALLEY MALL

A PLUG FOR THE OHIO VALLEY MALL

A PLUG FOR THE OHIO VALLEY MALL

I live two miles from the I-70 East exit to the Ohio Valley Mall. I will freely admit -- I am a mall person.  I can’t tell you how many times people have said to me, “There is nothing for me at that mall”.  Well, I love our mall.  I am addicted to Auntie Anne’s Pretzels and I love Fabio’s Pizza (which, by the way is owned by my neighbor).  Books a Million?  I am there at least two times a week. I shop at Macy’s, Elder Beerman, Boscov’s and Christopher & Banks for work clothes and casual clothes.  K-Mart?  I love it.  I buy a variety of things from K-Mart, and K-Mart is the store the firm uses for the Chambers Foundation Christmas Vouchers for under-privileged children in Ohio County, W.Va.  Even though I am not crafty, I am a regular at the Pat Catan’s store.  I love to walk through there and frequently find something I need or want for my home.  This summer I purchased my lawn mower from Sears. I have walked the Debbie Green 5K for two years and I get prepared by walking in the mall.  It is climate controlled, safe and I can sit and rest when I get tired. If I start at the main entrance, walk down to K-Mart and then go down every “wing” and then back to the entrance, it is almost exactly a mile.  A good, safe, climate-controlled place to walk.  Not to mention, an Auntie Anne’s pretzel is my reward. I have met and become friends with many people through the years at the mall.  I love jewelry, as anyone who knows me will attest to, so I frequent King’s Jewelry.  I stop in almost every time I go to the mall because the employees there are now my friends, too. I love the new and improved Hallmark Store.  It is a great place to get my “cute” fix and make notes to remind myself about Christmas gifts for my friends.  The sales clerks are all friendly and helpful. I know ALL the women at ALL the cosmetic counters in the Ohio Valley Mall (that might be a slight exaggeration).  I have modeled for Christopher & Banks when they have a style show showcasing a new season’s selections. I find that a lot of fun and look forward to it. Of course I don’t buy something every time I go to the mall.  (Well, maybe a pretzel and drink!). I have eaten dinner at Garfields and Osaka Steak House.  I regularly get a pedicure at the Escape Spa, and while I am in that “wing” I visit my friends at Steve’s Sports Cards. These are the stores I regularly shop in inside the mall.  I sometimes take offense when someone says, “There’s nothing for me in that mall.” I realize that these are not the “high end” stores one might find in Pittsburgh or some of the bigger cities, but they are great stores for the majority of the people in our area. It is also true that Ohio Valley Mall is mostly a weekend mall as far as traffic goes, but I never go there that I don’t meet someone I know and stop to chat with. So, give the mall a whirl.  The people are friendly, the parking is easy, there are many places to eat and shop and places to rest when you get tired.  See you at the mall!
