National Book Lovers Day
August 9 is National Book Lovers Day. I love a good book! I am an avid reader and read every day, even if only for a few minutes before I go to bed. I was thinking about all the books I have read over the years and tried to pick a favorite. I absolutely can’t! How could I possibly choose when each book I have loved is for a variety of reasons?
Someone once asked me how I could stand to read when I read all day at work. It’s not the same. Reading for work is a necessary part of my job that I do to complete tasks assigned to me. However, reading for pleasure is simply that, a pleasure. Transporting myself into the lives of characters in books is an escape from reality and very relaxing, unless it’s a mystery or thriller, and then it’s very exciting. I am right there living vicariously through the characters in the books as they do daring and dangerous things while I am safe from the perils they face.
One book I recently read and enjoyed was called After Death written by Dean Koontz. Of course, everyone knows that Mr. Koontz writes some interesting books. This one was no different. His imagination is something else. I won’t ruin it by telling you what it is about, but it’s really an interesting take on the powers of good and evil. I will leave it at that in the hope that you’ll read it for yourself.
So, in honor of National Book Lovers Day, pick up a book that interests you, whether it’s a mystery, love story, sports related, non-fiction or anything else, and ensconce yourself into a world other than the one you occupy. You will find that whiling away a few hours reading a good book is relaxing and will help you unwind from a busy day.
