Keeping Your House Protected While on Vacation

Today, everyone has become accustomed to posting pictures and updates of their daily lives, birthdays, parties, graduations, or any occasion. One of the most common events to share/post pictures about is leaving town for vacation.

Several security-system companies and home insurance companies have come out strongly advising against doing this as it puts a bull’s eye on your house for thieves and robbers.

Try limiting your vacation posts until you are back home as your house is less of a target when people are present. And to add some sort of safety deterrent, ask someone to check in on your house once or twice while you’re away. If you don’t have anyone, possibly keep a light on to allude that someone is “home.”

There are other ways to protect your house while you’re away. Unplug anything that uses an outlet or power strip; make sure there is nothing in your dryer; and set your thermostat on low to reduce your risk of a house fire.

Vacation is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable, so take these necessary precautions in protecting your home so you have one less thing to worry about.
