Controlling Holiday Stress

The holiday season is a fun and exciting time for many, but for others, it can also be stressful and overwhelming. Getting caught up in the hustle and bustle this time of year is easy to do. But it doesn’t always have to be that way!

If this holiday season is feeling difficult for you or you’re easily overwhelmed, the following tips may help keep your stress levels down.

  • Realize what really matters: Christmas isn’t about gifts or making your house look like it belongs in a magazine. It’s about spending quality time with loved ones, creating special memories, and being thankful for what you have.
  • Take a break and relax: There are no rules when it comes to Christmas preparation. You don’t always have to be on the go. Do something for yourself, whether it be lying on the couch watching your favorite movie, ordering takeout, catching up on a book you started, or taking a workout class.
  • It is OK to say no: I know this one is difficult, but you are allowed to say no and turn down invites to go to gatherings or participate in events that make you feel uncomfortable. Always protect your peace.
  • Create a budget and stick to it: The price of buying gifts for everyone on your list, along with groceries for Christmas dinner, can be very overwhelming. Planning ahead and creating a budget can help prevent overspending.

Remember, not everything has to be perfect. Give yourself grace and remember the reason for the season. Enjoy the time with your loved ones, and I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
