Tips for Saving on Your Electric Bill This Summer
With summer in full swing and the heat at a maximum, many of us just want to stay cool, so we tend to crank up the air conditioners. Air conditioning use makes up a significant portion of our electric bill in the summer causing high electric bills, which can break your budget.
While staying cool during these hot summer months is important, there are ways to help keep costs down. Here are some helpful tips to save on your electric bill this summer:
- Have your HVAC checked before summer and get regular maintenance;
- Adjust your thermostat to a higher temperature while still being comfortable;
- Upgrade your thermostat to a “smart thermostat” that can be adjusted remotely;
- Turn on a fan while in a room;
- Close blinds and drapes;
- Cook outside on a grill;
- Turn off lights;
- Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use;
- Wash clothes in cold water;
- Plant trees around your house for shade; and
- Open windows and doors for cross ventilation.
Wishing everyone a happy, safe, and cool summer!
