Looking for a weekend getaway with some hidden gems? Let me share one of my family secrets located at 6360 Fowler Road in Enon, Ohio. This is an example that it’s never too late to live your dream. Just ask my Aunt and Uncle JoAnn and Tom Moore.

Aunt JoAnn and Uncle Tom are living proof that a dream can become reality at any age. Uncle Tom retired from the Corporate Attorney world and his wheels kept on spinning. It all started with the PBS special episode of “Our Ohio” that featured a lavender farm. Uncle Tom shared his dream with my Aunt JoAnn that he thought it would be a dream come true to one day have a lavender business.

In 2015, Aunt JoAnn and Uncle Tom purchased their 33 acre farm. The purchase of this farm came with endless hours of very hard manual labor, but the two were excited to clear the massive land to prepare a canvas to build their dream.

By 2017, the land was ready to add the purple barn that would serve as the gift shop and events area, which also features a fully-furnished loft for when family comes to town.

Planting of several lavender fields begins every May and peaks in June generally through July, and it’s been open for business. The few months that the farm is open is a year-round job preparing for each new season, but the beauty never stops as ideas and additions each year flourish through my Aunt and Uncle’s minds.

Aside from the obvious beauty of the lavender plants, essential oils and culinary herbs are also created with the lavender plants.

Right next to Sunset Ridge Lavender Farm is the Brandeberry Winery that has a variety of wines, one of the best is its Lavender Dreams wine with just the right hint of lavender. You can spend hours at the Winery after you’ve spent your day on the Farm.

If that isn’t enough to fill your weekend getaway time, jump right over to Yellow Springs, Ohio only about 15 minutes from Enon, Ohio. Here, you can have dinner and a comedy show. Dave Chappelle opened the YS Firehouse located at 225 Corry Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio.

There you have it, folks – a weekend excursion not so far from home are some hidden gems around little Enon, Ohio.
