It is finally that time for the 2024 Summer Olympics! The Games are set to take place from July 26 to Aug. 11, 2024, and are hosted by Paris. This marks the return of the Olympics to the City of Light for the first time since 1924.
My grandma loved the Olympics; she even got to attend and watch some of the Games when they were hosted in Atlanta in 1996. I loved hearing her talk about her experience there and looking through pictures and keepsakes she bought. She passed her love for the Olympics on to my mom who then passed on to me. We absolutely love watching and cheering for Team USA.
Many years ago, my family started a tradition where we would gather at my grandparents’ house each time the Olympics came back around to watch the Opening Ceremonies together. We would dress in our red, white, and blue, and make plenty of snacks. It is one of my favorite things to do. My grandparents are no longer with us, but my mom always makes sure to carry on the tradition. We have our snacks picked out and our USA shirts ready for the show tonight!
It’s amazing to watch all the athletes come together and compete. The strength and resilience they have is truly something else. My favorite events to watch are swimming and gymnastics. I am also excited to watch Team USA’s women’s basketball this year.
